Tina Fontaine, 15

Murdered

Tina Fontaine was a 15-year-old Anishinaabe girl from Sagkeeng First Nation whose body was found in the Red River in Winnipeg in August 2014. Tina had been in the care of Child and Family Services when she went missing. Her death became a rallying cry for justice and systemic change, directly contributing to the federal government's decision to launch the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls. Tina's grandmother, Thelma Favel, continues to advocate for justice and systemic change.
